defying decay
"Every song feels like it could be a hit single."
Bangkok · Thailand · 2010–Present
Defying Decay formed in Bangkok in 2010 and spent a decade building an audience across Southeast Asia before the world caught up. Their third album, Synthetic Sympathy, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, NRG Studios in Los Angeles, and studios in Sydney and Bangkok — mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound.
The result earned a landmark Kerrang! 4/5 alongside coverage in Rock Sound, the South China Morning Post, and press across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The record features collaborations with Kellin Quinn (Sleeping With Sirens) and Thai-Belgian artist Violette Wautier, and a 32-piece live orchestra on select tracks.
Led by vocalist Jay (Poom Euarchukiati), Defying Decay sit at the intersection of hyper-pop production and metalcore intensity. They've supported Motionless In White across Europe, Ice Nine Kills in the UK, and became the first Thai heavy act to tour the US. Not a regional story.

In Their Own Words — Jay Poom Euarchukiati
"Synthetic Sympathy is the most honest thing we've ever made. It's about the world we're actually living in — the harshness and the softness, the chaos and the beauty that somehow exist side by side."
Jay Euarchukiati via Chaoszine · 2026"We open this record the way an opera opens — with an overture, something that builds before a single lyric is heard."
Jay Euarchukiati Rock Sound Track By Track · 2026"I like to have the lyrics open for interpretation and for everyone to have their own meaning … when I write my songs."

It did remind me quite a bit of early Linkin Park with a softer sung chorus mixed in perfectly.

"These guys bring the essence of bands like Wage War, Bad Omens and tonight's headliners to a level that gets the crowd ready."
The skilful cover of My Chemical Romance's 'Welcome To The Black Parade' kicks the energy up a further notch and by the last song of the set there is no hesitation from the crowd to fulfil the band's wall-of-death request.
Their final song was celebrated by a venue-deep wall of death, which is pretty decent for an opening act!
Delivering an unforgettable performance and even a circle pit, the energy of the crowd was immaculate.
The band sounded great on the night — the band's performance was incredibly tight and the vocals, both clean and the screams, sounded incredible.
Light and airy keyboards are at odds with the heavy bass — it does rouse the front of the crowd.
The animated band quickly won over the crowd with their energetic blend of metalcore and even had a few crowd surfers despite hitting the stage just 15 minutes after doors!
Alternative with a bit of a nu metal twist, blending guitars and drums with heavy synth laden backing tracks — both the guitarist and singer crowd surfed during their set.
